60mm Custom Beam Rifle x 1: Added to supplement the Gundam with a weapon that is not dependent on its battery, this rifle carries a larger energy cap than the standard model used by Soldatis, allowing for forty-five shots. It is low cost, low maintence, and aesthetically matched to the Gundam.
Beam Sabre x 2: A variation of the beam sword, this weapon also creates a stable energy blade that is useful in close combat. More powerful than common heat weapons and other alloy blades or clubs, it has the capacity to usher in a new standard in close range armaments. It is also quite easy to replace and repair. When not in use, both of these weapons are mounted on the Gundam's hips.
Fortis High-Impact Bracer x 1: A thick G-Metal shield that can be mounted on either of the Gundam's arm, this is an evolved form of Duras Bracer that was standard to the Leo prototype. It can also act as a storage rack for the beam rifle or an extra energy cap. Magnetic coating helps it handle well under energy weapons fire.
Vulcan Cannon x 2: Mounted in the sensor head, these weapons fire light armor piercing bullets in high-velocity bursts. While not always effective against heavier targets, they are ideal for light craft, and even shooting down incoming missiles.
Virgo was the first fully functioning mobile suit developed by the United Alliance Armed Forces, and the template for the Zodiac G units. Constructed under the authority of the Alliance's clandestine Englestein project, it represented a new stride forward in weapon design. Yet, despite indications that Englestein was simply about developing a highly maneuverable mobile weapon, mysteries surrounding the initiative's "secondary" elements have clouded the simple rationales that show through on the surface. Under the project's parameters, the Gundam's capabilities are divided between the effectiveness of both its hardware and software.
While very much the next generation in mobile weaponry, when it comes to hardware the Virgo is still influenced the past. Emphasizing the old UAAF standards of overwhelming ranged firepower, it is suited for sieges and assaults. This intentional element stems from the project's lofty proposal to create a machine that was almost as powerful as the Demolisher mobile walker, but as nimble as a human being. For that reason, the Virgo was equipped with high-energy acceleration thermal cannons (H.e.a.t.), an offshoot of traditional beam weaponry that offers both highly intensive damage and exceptional range.
A sophisticated beam shield and sabres originally rounded out the Gundam's arsenal. With the help of a hybrid hydrogen/nuclear fusion reactor, producing the energy required to power these devices and the H.e.a.t.s simultaneously was simple. However, the Virgo's recent loss of this incredible power source has forced the Alliance to rethink its equipment. Furthermore, combat operations have proven that there are flaws in the Gundam's core design, largely due to its intended role as a test and demonstration vehicle, not a real combatant.
Recent modifications have therefore been made to balance and refine the Virgo for field use. Its beam shield has been dropped altogether, while two of its power-hogging H.e.a.t.s have been traded for a less sophisticated beam rifle. The remaining pair have been tweaked to offer slightly more damage capacity, however. Luckily, the Gundam still has the ability to fire a high-output energy blast in assault mode. Its improved energy distribution also allows it to take better advantage of its wing binders, increasing its speed and agility.
The software side of the Virgo, the Paragon computer system, is one of the few elements that has gone untouched. It uses the ultimate computing device, the human mind, as a processing engine. Newtypes who possess the mental ability to transmit thoughts or machine ghost (forming a mental connection with the mechanical) have their consciousness' extracted through a bizarre procedure that is disturbingly similar to typical VR network interfacing. These "volunteers" have had their wills and personalities broken down through different brainwashing techniques, leaving them as blank slates ready for suggestion programming. The Paragon consciousness becomes a sleeper agent, able to take psychic possession of a pilot when triggered. Past tests, however, have shown that problems may arise if the "blanked" volunteer's traumatized personality manages to claw its way through the programming. Virgo's Newtype "soul" has been code-named Osiris.
