Shoulder Shield x 1: Built into the mobile suit's right shoulder, this rectangular shield can actually be detatched and held in one of its hands for added versatility. Made of thick titanium alloy, it can withstand at least one or two direct hits before losing integrity.
Heat Hawk x 1: A short titanium axe that has been covered in ablative coating, this weapon carries a powerful thermal charge when activated. Added to the sharpness already present in the blade, it makes the hawk rather potent for such a small weapon.
Net Gun x 1: A bazooka variant created for passive enforcement and non-lethal captures. It fires a mobile suit-sized net made of fibrous steel, enveloping the target. Pikes on its edges can secure to surfaces, for added effect. Though useful, this device does have a short range, which limits its capabilities. An ammunition canister contains five shots.
The Aeshma Prime has been at the core of the Grand Cross' rebellion since its opening days. During their first Ark liberation, the military organization terrified a colony militia by sending a single unit right at their lines. The sight of a gigantic, humanoid monster stomping towards them, oversized gun in hand, was enough to encourage a quick surrender. However, the Aeshma's fear factor soon wore off during future battles, leaving Grand Cross troopers to depend on the suit's abilities.
Like all mobile suits, the Aeshma is dependent upon an electrical battery for energy. This rechargeable core is usually powered up while the mobile suit is on a transport ship or at a Grand Cross facility. At full capacity, the Tora brand engine can keep an Aeshma up and running for a good five hours of constant operation, though this is cut down to three during prolonged combat. In order to conserve energy, pilots often place the mobile suit on standby when not in the heat of battle, allowing their machine to conserve energy and reactivate in a moment's notice.
The recent deployment of the more sophisticated Aeshma Wing had unofficially resulted in the re-designation of the Prime as a ground combat specialist. While its new counterpart was faster and more maneuverable, the original Aeshma was still a reliable unit on any terrain, especially within space colonies. However, the appearance of more and more specialized Grand Cross units soon left the machine seeming obsolete, even when compared to the new mobile suits of the United Alliance Armed Forces. Grand Cross tacticians, realizing the need to keep their Primes in service to face the threat of the "Uewie" army, have authorized a simple field upgrade of all their active units. The new A2 models have had their power distribution networks modernized for improved strength, agility, and vernier thrust, and have been issued better munitions. This revitalizes the Prime's role as a frontline trooper almost enough to challenge the legitimacy of the Wing as its successor. It should be noted that the Prime is no longer exclusive to the Grand Cross, however. Several groups, including a few pirate bands, have managed to acquire this mobile suit, often making modifications that place them on par with the official A2s. For the sake of statistics, they are effectively on even ground.
