After the project concluded, however, Max was used as part of a political game between members of the colony's administration and the defence force. Most of its best parts were taken and used to help complete a Bellafuria unit that the admin had been authorized to build. With no one else eager to hold on to the remains of the suit, former project leader and engineering graduate Sean Carver took custody of Max. Having joined Ark Orion's salvage guild, he used spare parts taken from the colony's debris belt to restore the suit.
When Ark Orion noble Baron Lawrence Maxwell concocted a mobile suit fighting tournament to create excitement on the colony, Sean chanced entering it with Max. Using more of the materials that he had salvaged and bought from the guild, along with his own ingenuity, he made the suit combat worthy. Besides its ability to handle a variety of additional weapons, Max's design allowed it to detach its wings for added agility in confined spaces. Furthermore, two permanent weapons, the Mumeito Straights, were added to its arsenal. These super-sharp blades are made of a reinforced alloy recovered from the debris belt, and did not require a thermal or electrical charge to use, making them nearly undetectable. Magnetic coating allowed them to clash with beam sabres, adding to their deadliness.
Unfortunately, shortly after its noteworthy performance in this contest, Max was destroyed in an encounter with pirates in the debris belt. Its remains were collected by the Ark Orion salvage guild, with the operational parts most likely put to use in repairing other mobile suits.
