    Story:

The core of the Lucifer's basic design is the heavy-duty Libra-class frame that was, ironically, designed and initially used by the Grand Cross during the First Space War. Originally intended as a long-range strike and supremacy weapon, the first Libra was attached to the space rebellion's vanguard, though it was often side-tracked from its post due to the impulsiveness of its pilot, GC ace Carmen Galidran. Over the course of the war, this Libra was modified and refitted several times as technology advanced, and was the only unit of its type to ever be fitted with one of the mysterious Paragon computer systems.

One other Libra unit saw service following the original. Libra "2," also known as the Libra-GM, a ground-based variation used by GC pilot Raymond Haliday. This design met its end against a United Alliance Armed Forces Judas mobile armor in the Gobi desert. Parts from its wreck went towards the construction of the Alliance's own Libra variant, which was ultimately taken by agents of Requiem and used during the Second Space War.

This Libra, code-named "Ryuujin," is the direct ancestor of the Lucifer. Pioneering a more streamlined design and modular weaponry options, its traits are the basis for the Newtype Corps' own machine, which was officially rolled out just after the organization's creation. A modular design left modification and customization very open, enabling the suit to even swap larger weapons that are usually integral in other designs. Originally, constant mechanical flaws kept this mobile suit from seeing wide mass production. However, modern innovations and equipment soon healed some of these old design wounds, giving the unit series a second chance.

Two of the most common variations are the 'mobile assault' and 'close combat' archtypes. The former adds a pair of shoulder boosters to the Lucifer's already-agile frame, giving it added maneuvering ability, and even hovering capacity under gravity. Standardized medium-to-long range weapons complement this bonus, offering a somewhat mundane but reliable arsenal. The close range layout, on the other hand, is much more focussed and radical in its approach, arming the with a savage assortment of melee weapons. One of the most sophisticated inclusions into this mix are the pair of Crossbladers, which are throwing weapons that can be guided by the pilot's mind.
