    Story:

The conventional Dom fills the niche of infantryman for the Grand Cross, which had been relying on its faster, agile, but relatively fragile Aeshma IV and Lycean for years. The Dom uses the latest version of the colony nation's sturdy composite armor and sports a wrist mounted beam shield that combined give it a high survivability. Advances in myomers also give the Dom an impressive running speed and a high strength for a mobile suit of its class. However, the real breakthrough that has the GC command walking around with their chins up in air is not so much the suit itself as it is its arsenal.

The Grand Cross military has always prided itself on its technology. The GC pioneered the use of the mobile suit in warfare and have always enjoyed a healthy, perhaps bloated, research and development budget. At any given time one can be sure that a GC engineer is either hunched over a keyboard while typing furiously, crawling over some top-secret mobile suit, or brewing up another pot of coffee. All of whom are considered military personnel, as the GC is notoriously untrusting of third party companies developing their mobile suits. The latest endeavour is in a realm that virtually everyone has marked down as science fiction or too impractical to be bothered. However, in secret the Grand Cross has been perfecting the use of Plasma weaponry.

All plasma weapons are heat-based (the plasma is heated to several million kelvin) and, in trials, have proved to be extremely effective in defeating all kinds of armor. However, the engineers found that the plasma was very unstable, so consequently the range of their weapons was very short. This was a tragedy for the military, which was looking for something that could handle long range firefights as well as assaults. Research and development was quick with a solution. They extended the length of their rifle and increased magnetic containment ten-fold. It worked like a charm; the range and velocity increased tremendously and the blue plasma 'blobs' were squeezed into tight bolts. The problem is that if containment fails at any time the built up energy will burst out in a terrible explosion. The team working on the rifle put a system in place that would eject the ammunition core before it explodes, minimizing the threat to the pilot. With this system in place and the remoteness of containment failing the rifle was deemed safe for field use. The Plasma rifle, nicknamed "Azure Wrath" by its designer, fires in semi-automatic from a 50 shot ammunition core, usually five spares are carried. It can fire traditional "armor piercing" bolts or exploding bolts that cause significant splash damage.

The other plasma armaments the machine boasts don't suffer from the deadly instability of the rifle, but they instead are limited by their range. Mounted on the left wrist is the Stub gun, a rapid fire plasma weapon that lacks range, but is ideal for close range assaults and duels. The suit also carries a plasma equivalent of the beam sabre only with a much broader "blade," which bears a striking resemblance to the original heat blade carried by the Aeshma Wing. The final weapon added to the arsenal, the Incinerator, is the equivalent to a mobile suit flamethrower. It simply spews forth a stream of searing hot plasma that melts armor, plays havoc with sensors, and is difficult to block with even the heaviest of bracers as the plasma often engulfs and spills around shields.

Since its creation, three variations of the Dom have been fielded by the Grand Cross. All of these units follow the GC's new aesthetics for mobile weapon design, which finally depart from the familiar mono-eyed sensor head that so many other manufacturers have since "borrowed." The basic infantry unit is by far the most common, and usually features a staple arrangement of Dom armaments. The second major subtype is issued to the famous Ranger squads. This version has adds both a network of enhanced sensors and a stealth system that surpasses the old colloid technology cloaking used during the First and Second Space Wars. The final subtype was designed for the GC's Marine Corps for the elite close range ship-to-ship assault operations. It is fitted with additional armor reinforcement, which ejects or sheds in layers as it receives damage.
