Not surprisingly this has become a big business in the last 20 years as the lack of a strong central government has caused a decrease in regular patrols of trade lanes, which of course led to an increase in all sorts of outlaw activity. One of the most successful companies in this new niche is Solo Industries, which had produced one of the most popular mobile suits early in this new era before, it was overcome by the more economical Dreng. However, they have returned with a new effort: the Dervish.
The Dervish is classified as a Light Assault Mobile Suit, which can be a misnomer as the designation "light" only refers to its weight and not the amount of firepower it brings to the board. In fact, the amount of firepower it can produce is quite impressive at medium range and deadly up close. It has six 80mm Hyper Vulcans divided between its head and both forearms. Unlike most Vulcan cannons the Kaiser Vulcans are actually effective in an anti-MS role for two reasons, the casings are longer and thus allow for more propellant and the rounds themselves explode, often after they penetrate a targets armor.
The main weapon of the Dervish is the Combat Shotgun, which, rather obviously, is extremely deadly at close range, but almost useless at long range. The most unique armament carried by the Dervish is the Chain mine, a set of linked explosive-stuffed discs that can be detached individually or used as a set and may be implemented in a variety of ways , such as the traditional mine role, a breaching charge role, or even as a desperate anti-MS role. Also carried in the standard load out are three Sturmfausts, a disposable rocket launcher that fires a single 360mm warhead, the uses for which are clear.
The Dervish sports one of the most complex and effective propulsion systems seen in a mobile suit yet. Several strategically placed thrusters, in addition to the main thrusters in its legs and on its back, help the Dervish achieve great speeds and gives it full flight. This makes it perfect for lightning quick raids where it can get in, cause a great deal of havoc, and get out before the enemy can get their thoughts together. Of course, that's in an ideal situation. If a Dervish strike team were to be bogged down or met by a well prepared and heavily armed foe, they could be easily worn down and blasted to bits thanks to their relatively light armor.
