Up until the Newtype Corps' rebellion, the Aeshma IV was the Grand Cross' mainstream mobile suit. The machine is a descendent of the Aeshma Wing, and retains much of its look. This shared aesthetic, however, is not the only similarity. Most of the Mark IV's systems are merely streamlined versions of the original Wing's, which have been modernized to make the unit lighter and for efficient. In terms of raw performance, Mark IV is about 30% faster and more agile than its parent design.
The Aeshma IV has been in the Grand Cross' service for almost a decade, having replaced the extremely problematic Mark III. Though the suit is capable of using a variety of armaments, most of its operations keep it limited to a standard payload. Such limitations made the unit an easy mark for the more specialized and modern machines of the Newtype Corps, leaving the colonial government no choice but to enhance their military. In the process, the Aeshma IV has been delegated to second-line duty and training cadres, where it still serves with some dignity.
