TARGET- Part II
by Brady Brunson
Philadelphia (police station)
Helen is weeping after being heartbroken by Kimble's rejection. Dan walks up to her. "Helen, you're coming home with me," he orders. "NO, I’M NOT," refuses Helen.
"YES, YOU ARE," says Dan roughly, grabbing her arm. "GET AWAY FROM ME!" shouts Helen. A police officer interrupts the quarrel. "What's going on here?" he asks. "Nothing, officer. Just mind your own business," threatens Dan. "My husband wants to kill me," cries Helen. "I think we better take care of this," says the police officer. "NO, WE'RE NOT," says Dan. Then he takes a swing at the police officer, knocking him to the ground. A few more police officers arrive at the scene. Dan grabs the gun from the first officer, then grabs Helen and points the gun right at her. "Drop your weapons or she’s dead," warns Dan. Helen is frightened and in tears. The police officers drop their weapons. "I want the guy you arrested that hit me in front of the café," Dan tells them. "Mister, that’s not a good idea," says one of the officers. "Shut up," Dan replies and fires a warning shot near them.
(police cell)
Kimble hears the shot and it gets his attention.
(police station)
"Help him up," says Dan, indicating the fallen officer. Then, holding Helen hostage with a gun, he makes the officers take him to Kimble's cell.
(police cell)
The 3 police officers and Dan and Helen approach the cell. "What’s going on? asks Kimble. "Shut up, Mister, and do what you're told," says Dan. "Unlock that cell," he commands one of the officers. "Get in." They comply. "You, out," says Dan to Kimble. Kimble leaves the cell and Dan shuts it. “You're making a big mistake,” warns one of the police officers. "I said shut up," Dan snaps. Then, gun still pointed at Helen, he leaves with her and Kimble.
(police station)
Dan, Helen and Kimble are walking out of the police station as a couple police officers are coming in. Dan aims the gun at both men and wounds one in the chest and the other in the leg. Kimble turns and attacks Dan, throwing him to the ground. The gun is knocked out of Dan’s hand. Helen picks up the gun and points it at Dan. Kimble and Dan quit struggling. Kimble gets to his feet. "Go," says Helen. "I've got things under control." Kimble gives her a quick look of thanks and leaves the police station.
Chicago (at the business building)
Gerard and Art are about to leave the building when Gerard’s cell phone rings. "Gerard," the Lt. answers.
Then the camera shows Gerard & Eddie
"We just got information from Philadelphia P.D. that they have Richard Kimble in custody," says Eddie. "Thanks for the information, Eddie," replies Gerard.
Outside the business building, on the way to Gerard’s Blazer
“Philadelphia?” questions Art. "Yeah, Dr. Kimble went to pay a visit to his father's grave," explains Gerard. "So, we're going to Philadelphia," says Art. "Yep," Gerard confirms. Then he calls the Airline travel agent on his cell phone.
Philadelphia bus stop
Kimble is wearing a long raincoat and sunglasses so he won’t be recognized. He walks up to the bus ticket booth. "I want the next bus out of town," he says. "The next bus is headed to Columbus, Ohio," the agent informs him. "That will do," says Kimble.
(police station)
An ambulance is in front of the police station and the rescue workers are helping the wounded police officers. The chief of police is apologizing to Helen. "We owe you a big apology for not believing you about your abusive husband," he tells her. "But now we have a Fugitive on the run."
Chicago (police station)
Eddie is at his desk when the phone rings. Eddie answers it. "Eddie Miles," he says. "This is the Philadelphia chief of police. Your fugitive, Richard Kimble, has escaped," says the chief. "Couldn’t you guys hold him? Lt. Gerard is on his way," responds Eddie. "We had ourselves in a sticky situation. Kimble was arrested for assaulting a man named Dan, who came into the police station about an hour ago and knocked out one of my men and shot and wounded 2 other officers. He took his own wife hostage and released Kimble from jail. Kimble attacked Dan and then got away," the chief relates. "We have Dan in custody right now, but your fugitive is still on the loose." "Is Kimble still in Philadelphia?" asks Eddie. "So far as we know," the chief answers. "Kimble probably left town by now," Eddie observes. "Thanks for the update." As he hangs up, Eddie realizes that something is wrong with his phone. He checks the receiver and finds a bug. "What’s going on here?" Eddie wonders aloud to himself.
At the Chicago airport/police station
Gerard and Art are at the airport when Gerard’s cell phone rings. “Gerard,” the Lt. answers. "Kimble has escaped from Philadelphia P.D.," says Eddie. Then he tells Gerard what the police chief told him about Kimble's escape. "Thanks for the information, Eddie," says Gerard. "Also, there's something else you should know. The phones here in the office have been bugged," Eddie continues. "What?" asks Gerard incredulously. "Are you on one right now?" "No," replies Eddie. "I think Andrew Smith may have done the tapping," says Gerard. "So he'd know where Kimble is," agrees Eddie. "We're on our way to Philadelphia on the next flight. If there’s any more information let me know immediately. Kimble might be in danger," says Gerard. “OK,” answers Eddie.
Hours later in Columbus, Ohio (at the bus station)
A bus pulls up to the bus stop. A number of passengers step off, including a man in a long rain coat wearing sunglasses. The man known as 'Dr.Richard Kimble' looks around to see if he can find a place to eat. He sees a small diner down the street from the bus station, right across from a gas station. Kimble heads towards the diner.
Philadelphia (police station)
Gerard and Art arrive at the Police station. "I’m Lt. Gerard. Are you the chief?" Gerard asks the Philadelphia police chief. "Yes, I am," responds the chief. "How long ago did Kimble escape?" questions Gerard. "It’s been about 6 hours, at the most," answers the chief. "Why?" "Have you seen this man?" Gerard counters, showing him a picture of Andrew Smith. "No, I haven’t," says the police chief. "I thought you guys were after Kimble." "We are," says Art. "This man is Andrew Smith. He was hired to kill Kimble and anyone who gets in his way. He is armed and dangerous and he’s also wanted for shooting one of our team members," Gerard relates. "We’ll make sure we keep an eye open for him too," promises the police chief. "I’d appreciate that," responds Gerard. "Art, go to the bus station and see if Kimble boarded any of the buses out of town," he says. "OK," replies Art. "I want to ask this lady that Kimble was with some questions," Gerard tells the chief. "Her name is 'Helen'. I’ll take you to her," says the police chief. "Thanks," says Gerard.
Columbus, Ohio (at the gas station)
A van pulls into the gas station right across from the small diner where Kimble is. One of the fake FBI agents goes around to put gas in the van while another crosses over to the diner.
(in a small diner)
The FBI guy walks in and goes up to the counter. He picks up a menu, then casually surfs the room. His face lights up with surprise when he recognizes Richard Kimble. The waitress, standing by to take his order, asks, "Are you OK?" The agent answers, "I’m fine." He gets up quickly and leaves the diner.
(at the gas station)
The FBI agent walks back to the van and gets inside. "Where’s the food?" asks FBI man # 3. "Richard Kimble is here, guys," the agent tells them. "That’s impossible. Kimble's in Philadelphia," says Andrew Smith. "He must have escaped," says Ben Charnquist. "He's good at that." "Well, he won’t escape from us," replies Andrew Smith.
Philadelphia (bus station)
Art walks up to the ticket counter. The ticket person enquires, "Can I help you?" Art pulls out Kimble’s picture. "Have you seen this man?" he asks. "Yeah, he was here earlier today." "Which bus did he get on?" Art pursues. "The Columbus, Ohio bus," responds the ticket person. "Thanks, thanks a lot," says Art.
(At Dan & Helen’s residence)
Helen is packing up everything she owns when the doorbell rings. Helen stops and looks out the window. She sees a Philadelphia police cruiser outside. She opens the door. Gerard and the Police chief are at her doorstep. "Sorry to bother you, Helen. This is Lt. Gerard from the Chicago Fugitive Task Force," says the police chief. Helen is still frightened over her abusive husband.
"I want to ask you a few questions about a Fugitive we're looking for," says Gerard. "How long have you known Richard Kimble?" "Since yesterday," she replies. "I believe Kimble is an innocent man, Lieutenant. I think you should leave him alone," she tells him. "Kimble was charged and found guilty of murdering his wife," Gerard states. Then his cell phone rings. He answers, "Gerard." "Kimble took the Columbus, Ohio bus," says Art on the other end. "Good work," says Gerard. "Meet us back at the police station."
Columbus, Ohio (diner)
Kimble is getting ready to leave the diner. He pays for his meal and leaves.
Outside of the diner
As Kimble is walking away from the diner, the 3rd FBI man starts stalking him. He picks up his small radio. "Kimble is heading north," he says.
A block away
"OK," responds agent # 1. "He’s heading north," the agent relays to Ben Charnquist.
A couple more blocks away (inside the van)
"Drop me off here," says Andrew Smith."This time Kimble will be a dead man." He grabs a sniper gun from the van. Then he climbs up the fire stairs to the top of the roof of one of the buildings.
Philadelphia (police station)
Gerard and the police chief meet up with Art. "What did the lady say?" asks Art. "Not a whole a lot of information," replies Gerard. "I'll need to contact Columbus,Ohio P.D."
At the top of the roof
Andrew Smith is all set up. Then he picks up a radio and says, “Is everyone ready?”
A couple blocks away
A hooker is standing around looking for a good time. Ben Charnquist walks up to her and starts sexually harassing her. Kimble is walking directly towards them, and suddenly spots Charnquist harassing the hooker. He begins to run towards them. Charnquist sees Kimble coming and darts down an alley. Kimble takes the bait, running after him into the alley. Charnquist continues towards the building where Andrew Smith is waiting for Kimble to come into target range. Kimble starts gaining on Charnquist.
At the top of the roof
Smith is looking through his Target range. Charnquist leads Kimble in front of the building. Then Andrew Smith sees Kimble in his Target range….Shots are fired 3 times.
