PART I

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

On a nice warm sunny morning The Camera shows a cemetery. Kimble is walking through the cemetery and approaches a tombstone that reads "Here lies Stuart Kimble". Kimble bends down, his face reflecting his sad emotions. Kimble says, "I really miss you, Dad." He takes off his St. Christopher’s medal and kisses it. In a soft voice he prays the St. Christopher’s prayer and promises that he’ll find justice. Kimble then arises and walks away. As he is leaving the cemetery he hears a woman screaming for help. Kimble sees a young woman in her late 20’s running towards him. A man in his mid 30’s is chasing after the woman. The woman is very pretty. She has blonde hair to her shoulders and is wearing glasses.

The man that is chasing her has brown hair, a mustache and an average build. "HELP ME!! HELP ME!!! MY HUSBAND IS TRYING TO KILL ME," she cries as she approaches Kimble. "Come on," Kimble says, grasping hold of the woman’s hand, and they both take off in a sprint. Then the woman’s husband stops and shouts loudly after them, "HELEN YOU ARE DEAD!!! YOU HEAR ME? YOU ARE DEAD!!!"

Chicago

A bus pulls up to a bus stop. Ben Charnquist steps off, walks towards a tall business building, and goes inside.

Inside of the business building

There's a big lobby on the 1st floor. Charnquist walks up to the service desk. "I’m here to see Andrew Smith," he says. "And what is your name, sir?" enquires the lady receptionist. "Ben Charnquist," responds Charnquist. "OK," the receptionist says. She calls Andrew Smith and tells him, "Ben Charnquist is here to see you, Mr. Smith." Then she directs Ben Charnquist to the conference room.

Philadelphia (a park close to the cemetery)

Kimble and Helen stop and rest in the park. "Thank you, sir. I didn’t mean to put you in that situation," apologizes Helen. "That’s OK," says Kimble. "By the way, I am Helen," she says as she greets him with a hand shake. "I know. Your husband was screaming out your name. I'm Roger," Kimble tells her. "My husband, Dan, is a really violent person. He's abused me most of the time we’ve been married. Today I finally escaped from him," Helen confides. "How long have you two been married?" asks Kimble. "A year and a half. He was a wonderful person when we met. Then, after we got married, he changed. He’s not the same person I fell in love with," she says.

Chicago (Conference room)

Charnquist meets up with Andrew Smith and three FBI agents.

"Gentlemen, this is Ben Charnquist--the 'one-armed man' that Richard Kimble has blamed for his wife's murder," Smith explains. "Shall we get started?" he asks, as he dims the light and turns on the overhead screen. Picture slides of Richard Kimble show on the screen. "This is the man that killed Helen Kimble, the daughter of Mr. Matthew Ross. Mr. Ross has hired me personally to capture and kill Dr. Kimble. Mr.Ross is paying me $25,000 to capture Kimble and $50,000 to kill him." Next he shows a slide of Ben Charnquist. "As you know, Mr. Charnquist is here with us today. He is the man that Kimble blames for his wife’s murder. Kimble has been tracking down Charnquist since his escape from the transport taking him to his execution." Then Smith shows slides of Gerard. "This is Lt. Phillip Gerard. He is in charge of the Chicago Fugitive Task Force. Gerard is a Big Problem for us. He has been hunting Kimble since Kimble’s escape and has failed a number of times. Mr. Ross has also mentioned that if Gerard gets in our way, we are to kill him as well."

Philadelphia (at a café diner)

Kimble and Helen are in a booth having coffee. "Dan was once a wonderful person. We spent lots of happy and enjoyable times together. But after we said, 'I do', he turned violent," she shares. "What made him change?" asks Kimble. "The alcohol. He started drinking a lot. He also became really jealous. One time we were both at his business party and he introduced me to his co-workers and his boss. Later on, he was talking separately with his co-workers and I was just standing there, feeling lonely. Then Dan’s boss came over and started talking to me and we had a good conversation going. But Dan turned around and had that jealous look on his face. I could tell he was mad. After we got home from the party, he shoved me down on the floor and beat me until I was black and blue." Concerned, Kimble asks, "Helen, have you gone to the police?" "I went to complain one time but they did nothing about it. The next day Dan found out and he threatened to kill me if I ever went to the police again," she relates.

Outside the café diner

Dan is in his pickup truck waiting on Kimble and Helen to come out of the café diner.

In the café diner

Kimble and Helen are getting ready to leave the diner.

Outside the café diner

Kimble and Helen come out of the diner. Dan gets out of his pickup truck and walks up behind Kimble. He shoves Kimble. "DAN," Helen screams. Kimble turns around. Dan takes a swing at Kimble but misses. Then Kimble takes a few swings of his own. Dan hits the ground. A police car pulls up. The officer, who saw Kimble beating Dan, tells Kimble to put his hands behind his head. While he arresting Kimble, Helen tries to explain to him that Dan started the fight.

Chicago (Gerard's office)

There's a knock on Gerard's door. "Come in," says Gerard. Art walks in. "Phillip, Andrew Smith has been seen in Chicago. He was caught on display video cameras showing that he's been spending time in this business building in downtown Chicago," Art informs Gerard. "Let’s go and check it out!!" the Lt. says, jumping up. "We've got a warrant for his arrest." Together, they leave Gerard's office.

Chicago (Police department parking lot)

Art and Gerard are walking towards Gerard’s blazer when an FBI agent (one of Andrew Smith’s men) walks past heading towards the Police station.

Philadelphia (Police station)

Kimble is in jail, being booked for assault. The man in the cell next to his is talking crazy, like he should be in a mental hospital. Helen pays a visit to Kimble. "Roger, are you OK?" she asks. Kimble rises up from his cot and goes to the bars of his cell. "Helen, what are you doing here?" he asks. "I was worried about you," she answers. "I told the police everything, but no one's listening." "How'd you get away from Dan?" Kimble asks her. "While the police officers were questioning Dan I disappeared before he could notice. Then I came here," she says. "Helen, there's something I need to tell you. My name isn't Roger--it's Richard Kimble. I’m accused of murdering my wife. A one-armed man named Ben Charnquist broke into my home and killed her. By the time I got home it was too late to save my wife. Charnquist attacked me and got away. I was charged and found guilty of murder. While being transported to my execution the police van got into an accident and I escaped and have been on the run ever since. I am a Fugitive," Kimble reveals.

Helen tries to hold Kimble's hand between the cell bars. "What’s going to happen to you now? Do they know you're Richard Kimble?" "Not yet, but they will as soon as they get a match on my finger prints. Then they’ll be calling Lt. Gerard. He's made a career of trying to capture me, so my only chance now is finding a way of escape," says Kimble. "What can I do to help?" Helen asks quickly. "I don't want you to do anything. I want you to leave. I don't want you to get in trouble for me," Kimble answers. Helen turns around, heart broken. She walks away, tears in her eyes. "Mr, you’re a very bad man for what you did to that kind lady," rants the crazy man in the next cell. Kimble sits back down on his cot, feeling guilty for hurting Helen’s feelings and trying to think of a way to escape.

Chicago (at the business building)

Art and Gerard walk in to investigate the building where Andrew Smith was holding his conference. Gerard questions the lady receptionist. She lies when he shows her a picture of Smith. "No, I haven’t seen this man," she says. "Listen, you seem like a nice lady. If you're protecting Andrew Smith in any way you could be facing charges," Gerard informs her. The receptionist takes a moment to think it over, than she admits, "Yes he’s been here. He has been renting the conference room all week. "Where is this conference room?" asks Gerard.

Chicago (Task Force offices)

Eddie is sitting at his desk fooling around when he accidentally spills coffee on his shirt. "Oh man," gripes Eddie. He gets up from his desk and walks towards the restroom. After Eddie is gone, the FBI agent goes to Eddie's desk and places a bug in his phone. Then he goes into Gerard’s office and places another bug in Gerard’s phone. As Eddie walks back to his desk from the restroom, he stops and tries to flirt with a woman officer. While his back is turned, the FBI agent sneaks past him.

Philadelphia (Outside of the police station)

Dan sees Helen's car outside of the police station. His face takes on a mean look and he starts to walk towards the police station.

Philadelphia (police station) / Chicago (police station)

Eddie's phone rings at his desk. "Detective Miles," Eddie answers. "Yeah, I'd like to speak to Lt. Gerard," says the officer from Philadelphia on the other end. "He’s not here right now. He's on a case," replies Eddie. "This is Philadelphia PD. We have a man in custody named Richard Kimble," says the officer. "Thanks for the information! Keep a close eye on him--he escapes way too easily. We'll be there ASAP to take Kimble in," promises Eddie.

Chicago (in a van outside of the police station)

Andrew Smith, Ben Charnquist and the three FBI men have just recorded the conversation between Eddie and the officer in Philadelphia. Andrew Smith turns to the FBI agent in the driver's seat. "That's it. Let's go to Philadelphia."
