Rosey and Frank Talk

(December 2003)

I would like to thank my editor and good friend, Donna E, for being the encourager she always is

Rosey and Starsky drove to the park. Many things were going through both of their minds. It had been a whirlwind several days. As Starsky drove the car closer to the park, he knew that his time with Rosey was about to come to an end.

Frank was waiting for them under a group of trees. He looked away as Starsky took Rosey's hand and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek. "I'll be over there." He pointed to a nearby bench.

Frank took Rosey's hand and led her away from earshot of Starsky. He growled, "Why did he have to come?"

"Daddy, I know you don't like him, but we are im love."

"Rosey, I have decided to accep tthe commmittee's offer."

"Yeah," she looked at him with a surprised look on her face.

"Yes, under the agreement, I would give evidence, behind closed doors, but in public, I would plead the fifth. I am getting too old for this type of thing."

"Oh." Rosey did not know what to say.

"Yes, Rosey, and then you and I are leaving town."

"Why?"

"Cos I do not want anyone to find out what I did cos, if word gets out what I did, they will be gunning for you."

"OK."

"Rosey Malone, I am your father, and what I say goes>"

"If you say so."

"As soon as we leave here, we will go to your place and you will pack a bag. Then we will go to my place and I will get some things and then we will leave."

"Where are we going?"

"Nobody needs to know where we are going."

"I need to talk to David about this."

Frank almost choked on his words, "That cop."

"Yes that cop," But Rosey knew that her father was right. Starsky had lied to her. They had only met several days before and she did not really owe him anything. "Daddy, if I had my choice, I would like to go to Mexico and live with the Hechoid Indians."

"They are important to you, aren't they?"

"Yes."

"Rosey did not know it, but for the first time in her life, her father was about to listen to someone else's opinion. He knew how important the Hechoid Indians were to her.

"Then to Mexico, it is."

"Daddy, I would at least like to say good-bye to David."

"Yeah, I can at least give you that much." Frank said relunctlently.

Frank took his daughter's hand and together they rejoined Starsky who was still sitting at the bench.
