CAGES OF STEEL
Their crime is that they fought back/their
crime is that their fighting still/ for the brown, poor, red and the black/With
the spirit no prison can kill/In control unit prisons cross the USA/They're
locked down for 22 hours a day/Another year comes and another year goes/They
wait in the cages where the wind never blows/The authorities segregate/Those
who may harness the incoherent violence/To neutralize and eliminate/The
threat to power they'll try to silence/Political prisoners cross the USA
crouch in six by eight cells every day/The struggle goes on in the ghettoes
and mines/ They wait in the cages where the sun never shines/As the flame
of oppression burns hotter/The still water will begin to boil/They'll try
to put out the fire/Or at least keep it under control/By building cages
of rock, cages of stone/ cages of iron and cages of bone/They sit and wait
for their daily meal/They're waiting for us in the cages of steel/Locked
down at Florence, and at Pelican Bay/Twenty years at Marion is the price
some have paid/ Once these prisons are built they don't go away/They're
building them for you, they're building them for me/Ray Luc LeVasseur
