New York Post Criminal Justice Editor Murray Weiss is reporting in the Monday, November 9, edition that the plunger recovered at the 70 Pct. S.H. by Internal Affairs investigators
does not contain the DNA of alleged victim Abner Louima.
The plunger was tested for DNA by the FBI.
However, the Post story also points out that this particular plunger was found three days after the incident. It also says that, while other DNA was found on the plunger, the lack of Louima DNA on the stick only shows that Louima "can be excluded as a potential contributor to the DNA."
For the Defense, this is good news. Louima's story took off like wildfire when Mike McAlary of the Daily News broke it. But since then, Louima's story has developed some inconsistences, as well as some admitted lies. It was first reported that Louima's front teeth were knocked out during the the encounter with the police. This proved to be false when hospital records showed that Louima had dentures for his front teeth when he first was examined, and were properly secured by hospital personnel. The other, more damaging, falsehood was that the officers involved stated, "It's Giuliani time; not Dinkins time..." during the alleged fray. Louima himself later stated that this was a lie perpetrated by himself.
Another interesting fact was that the NYPD publicly announce in the early stages of the Louima investigation that, although they believed a stick was used, it was not a plunger! Yet, now, a plunger is itemized as potential evidence.
We all must remember the Giuliani/Safir Regime publicly tried to prevent the officers involved from being caught up in a worldwind of misinformation, stating, in essence, that we should all wait for the facts to come out. However, when both Rudy and Howie saw the groundswell of anti-cop fever developing, they quickly threw the cops to the wolves; to hell with the truth.
Now that more information is truly coming out, we now know that the politician's motto is, "Don't confuse me with the facts..."
