"SOME WRONGLY ACCUSED..." IN MTS INVESTIGATION!

But any 20 cops will do: Investigator to NY TIMES

In a story easily overlooked in the "Metro" Section (7/21) of the New York Times, an unidentified investigator who "spoke on the condition of anonymity..." (for obvious reasons) told the Times that some of the cops scooped up in the Midtown South Investigation may, in fact, have nothing to do with the alledged sex-for-protection scandal.

"I think 20 is the right number. It may not be the 20 who got 'modified,' but I think that is the number we'll end up with," says the investigator. The paper reports that some of the cops whose names were released to the press were never observed entering the brothel or the apartment across the street.

The ramifications of such an accusation against an innocent officer can be overwhelming. A PUBLIC accusation can be devestating! But, apparently, in his haste to cover his own ass, or to give the appearance that he actually knows what is going on, Commissioner Safir never took this possibility into consideration when he called that 2300 hr. press conference and announced the names of five officers.

But it again shows, as Prosay has been reporting all along, that the PAWNS of the NYPD politicians, as well as the those politicians not employed by the NYPD, have been, and continues to be, the average Police Officers, on Patrol in the Department.

A title to an old World War II movie can best describe the motto of the Safir Administration in dealing with Police Officers:

"THEY WERE EXPENDABLE"
