Free the ROMs

Last Updated:13/05/98

In 1989, Sega surprised the world with the first true 16-bit gaming platform, the Genesis, or MegaDrive as it was known in Europe.Genesis was a hit for a few years, at least until Nintendo interduced SNES.

Genesis have used cartridges which contained a piece of hard-coded software, mostly knows as ROM(Read Only Memory).many game producers have made such cartridges and sold them

Today, there is an option to emulate the Genesis on a standard PC, and enjoy the full sound and graphics the Genesis had, however, in order to play you need ROMS images on your disk

There is only one problem.although not profitable today, the game writers insist not to allow to copy the ROMS, but some ROM archives have grown up in the underground, and "the dump" used to be the biggest of all, with more than 750 ROMS

on the 20/3/98, IDSA(Interactive Digital Software Association) have shuted down "the dump", because they allowed to download ROMS.

most of the people that have downloaded the ROMS will not buy them anyway, and believe me, today no one will spend 1 cent in order to buy an old ROM for the genesis to play on his computer
