What is ACR, and what does ACR do? Alaskans for Civil Rights (ACR) is a locally organized and operated statewide political organization dedicated to obtaining full civil rights for Alaskan gay, bi, lesbian, transgendered, and progressive straight people (GBLTS) in all aspects of personal and public life. ACR is composed of its members; all of our work is done by our members on a volunteer basis. We are local people working together to improve our quality of life in communities throughout Alaska.

ACR serves as a point of contact for individuals and local groups in Alaska's GBLTS statewide community. ACR assists individuals to get in contact with local groups, and serves as a central clearinghouse for information of interest to local GBLTS groups statewide. ACR also serves as a point of contact between the Alaskan GBLTS community and national or international organizations outside of Alaska. ACR cooperates with partner groups such as Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG), the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force and Policy Institute (NGLTF), the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (IGLHRC), and with the sponsors of nation-wide one-time-events. ACR's focus is on working to advance the cause of full civil rights for Alaskan GBLTS through political efforts and education. ACR coordinates local groups statewide in political campaigns to advance or defeat specific candidates and pieces of civil rights legislation in Alaska. ACR also serves as the state-wide organization in Alaska to counter right-wing campaigns attacking equal rights here at home. In order to effectively perform this vital work we need your support.

If all you do is vote each election and join ACR today, then you are doing immensely valuable work for the cause of achieving equality in Alaska.

If you would like to become even more involved, then ACR will keep you informed of threats to GBLTS equality and updated with the good news of our successes in the struggle. ACR also provides Alaskans with opportunities to participate directly in educational work and political actions--at both the local and state level--to whatever extent you feel comfortable and have the time and energy to become involved. ACR sponsors one-time-events, annual events, and ongoing efforts in Alaska. (By the way, many of those "events" are also great fun-filled celebrations! We love a good party and getting together with friends, especially when it also scores big points for achieving equal rights at the same time).

ACR maintains a dynamic information-filled internet website--updated all the time--so that you know what is going on around the state of Alaska. We plan to include a directory of progressive/GBLTS-friendly businesses as well. ACR has already successfully coordinated several local efforts, statewide, giving Alaska a proud presence in nation-wide events. With your support and participation, ACR will be even more successful in promoting a climate of tolerance, diversity, and inclusion such that all children, all couples, and all families can live happily and equitably, enjoying equal rights in Alaska.
