This will come as no surprise to readers of the Eye, when Mrs. Wright's story was first reported three months ago; Nor will it surprise (GMB members, who have grown accustomed to their union's rather uncomradely management style.

Earlier this year the (GMB was forced to pay five-figure compensation to another former employee, Warren Glover, who had been sacked after complaining about "cover-ups" at the union's Wimbledon HQ. Until his dismissal, Glover was employed as the in-house expert on, er, workplace bullying.

'Two years ago, Edmonds had the distinction of being the first person to the TUC's Bad Bullying Boss hotline, set up to "name and shame" dictatorial employers. The caller, who was too frightened to give her name to the confidential hotline because she suffered another of his legendary rages, accused the Walrus bulldozing through "flexible working practices" and rejecting all suggestions. He had also refused staff permission to hold a union meeting on (GMB premises, and then sent his personnel officer to eavesdrop when they adjourned to an alleyway nearby.

Needless to say, the TUC decided it would be to embarrassing to "name and shame" this particular Bad Bullying Boss- not least because the allegations were all true.
