The government has succeded in passing all of its major initiatives this month despite the active resitance of the opposition Green Party.

In accordance with the Constitution, the King has asked the Government to test its mandate in the Assembly after another year in power. The Prime Minister reshuffled the Cabinet and then the Leader of the Chamber of Deputies and the Leader of the Senate tabled Montions of Confidence in each of their respective houses. The Motion of Confidence in the Chamber passed 268-232 and the Motion of Confidence in the Senate passed 108-92

Additionally, two legislators have left the Assembly. A Kommunist Deputy was expelled from the Chamber after he was convicted of a felony related to an election campaign in his home state. The leaders of all the parties have denounced the Deputy for bringing shame and disrepute on the Chamber and the assembly. Also, a Conservative Senator has decided to resign to pursue other interests. The leaders of all the parties have wished him well in his future ventures. The King has ordered by-elections to take place in the appropriate states in two months time to fill the vacant seats.

The Kommunists succeded in raising their profile enough to allow them to win the by-election to fill the seat vacated two months ago. Analysts note that the Kommunists share of the vote increased while the share of the vote for every other party but the SDP decreased. Analysts not though that the parties of the left did particularly well in this state at the general election, and the results give little indication of the general state of the government parties.

The share of the vote for the government parties fell significantly; the largest part of the decline was in the vote for the Conservatives. Analysts note, though, that the Conservative candidate became involved in a scandal that sank his campaign. Analysts credit the Nationalist win to the fact that they surpassed the 5% threshhold in the by-election after failing to do so in the general election.
