Theodore "Teddy" Washington has been on Death Row in the Arizona State Prison (Florence, AZ) since January 1988.
I have been writing to Teddy since 1990. We were put in touch by the Cambridge(UK)-based LifeLines organisation, who have helped link almost every one of the 3000 Death Row inmates currently incarcerated in US prisons with pen-friends across Europe.
Convicted, along with two others, Teddy is still awaiting a death sentence 12 years later. The facts of the case can be found here.
In common with most Death Row prisoners, Teddy is involved with an appeal on his sentencing, with a further appeal detailing the mistakes made by his original defence council. More detail about this can be found here.
