Daniels' 70 Weeks
Daniel's 70 Weeks

Many people have heard of Daniel's 70 weeks, and know that they have to do with prophecy or related to the Book of Revelation. We will try and explain them a little further.

Each week is actually 7 years; 70 x 7 = 490 years. During this time the national "chastisement" must be fulfilled and the nation re-established in everlasting righteousness

(Daniel 9:24) "Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make and end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to annoint the most Holy"

What we must remember is that Daniel was a prophet of the Jews, and the Jews only. His vision of the seventy weeks as mentioned earlier were not "continuous" there are gaps in time. The current gap seems to be at 2000 years right now.

As of now, November of 2000; 69 of those weeks have been fulfilled and we are waiting for the 70th week which we know deals with the tribulation and eventually Jesus' return.

Daniel 9:25
"Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks; the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublesome times"

Threescore and two = 62 + 7 = 69 weeks. So there is yet just one week, or 7 years left to finish God's dealings with Israel. The seven years is the tribulation period prophesied in the Bible.

What we do know about the tribulation period:

  • It begins with a "peace treaty" with Israel made for 7 years
  • The daily sacrifice resume in the Holy Temple in East Jerusalem
  • There will be "peace" or at least a truce between Israel and its enemies for the first part (3.5 years)
  • Midway through, the covenant shall be broken
  • The daily sacrifices will stop
  • The abomination of desolation will happen
  • people will be required to receive a "mark" in their right hand or forehead in order to buy or sell and possibly work.
  • The antichrist will gather all nations against Israel
  • God will pass out judgement on the world.
  • Jesus Christ will come in glory and defeat Satan and his people.

Now keep in mind that there are some other theories on this; this outlines a "pre" tribulation rapture of the church. I know of some people who do not believe that the Holy Temple will be rebuilt, but that the court outside of the old site of the Temple will become prominent. Also, there are those who believe that the antichrist will not be killed {see Rev. 13} and that it is the empire itself that died and comes back to life. This is a possibility. IN reading Rev.13

1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?"

Right away we see that this beast has 7 heads; I hardly think that the "antichrist" will show up with 7 heads. It says 1 of his heads is mortally wounded. That would lead the reader to believe that this is referring to a country or an empire of old; that is no longer.See study on the Hashemite Kingdom
