Matt 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
As we all know, our Lord Jesus gave this commandment to the eleven disciples just before He took off to heaven. Since this is a command, there must be an action that will execute the command. In computing, there�s what we call command interpreter that assists the processor in processing information as and when required.
The commission, which was passed onto us through the Apostles, was a command for us to baptise all those that belief on the Lord Jesus Christ in the �name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost�. We then need the Holy Spirt who is our God given command interpreter to tell the name that the Father bears which is also the name of the Son as well as the Holy Spirit. This commission says NAME and not NAMES of the Father Son and Holy Spirit. Many famous and great preachers today perform this act by dipping their converts in the name of the Father, (literally) and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. However, we know that father, son and holy ghost are no names but tittles. Every male child born into this world is a son to his father, likewise, any man that give birth to any child in this world is a father to that child. Ghost is the spirit of a dead person. For any ghost to be holy, the person must have lived a holy life before he or she died. This implies that the holy ghost is not a name but a tittle given to the spirit of holy dead person. There is only one person that lived a holy life before He died. And that is Jesus Christ. Rev. 1:18
Rev 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.
NOW THE QUESTION IS:-
Let us see what all the apostles did in other to perform this task.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
This was the first mention of baptism after the departure of Jesus and it happened just as the much-awaited promise of the out poring of the Holy Ghost came down on the day of Pentecost. Could it be that Peter made a mistake in this declaration of the primary steps to salvation? The answer is NO. Now read this: -
Jesus once told the disciples in John 16:12-14 that: 12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
And in John 14:26 that:
But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. (KJV)
These passages indicate that the disciples will be guided in the task and commission that was given to them. We of course saw that the Lord was with them in all their actions and utterances.
In all the acts of the Apostles, baptism were done or performed in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is because the name of the father is Jesus (God saves), and because father, son and holy ghost is just but one person (see my message titled the Godhead), the apostle all baptised using that name. In fact the revelation of the name of the father, son and holy ghost was made on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Ghost spoke through Peter.
Acts 8:14-16 15 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John: 16 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost: 17 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Acts 10:47-48 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we? 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
Apostle Paul, who met the Lord on the way to Damascus, also baptised in the name of Jesus Christ.
Acts 19:2-5 2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. 4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Paul was himself baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Acts 22:12-16 12 And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there, 13 Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him. 14 And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth. 15 For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard. 16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
You can see from all this scripture that baptism is done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Father, son and holy ghost are titles and contain no name at all. No body ever baptised in the title of father, son and holy ghost in the bible.
In one of his letters, Paul said that whatever we do, in words or deeds, we should do all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Baptism is a deed and so must have to be done in the name of Jesus Christ. For there is no other name whereby we can be save. Salvation can only be achieved in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
A pastor once told me in London (UK), that though he has seen from my messages and convinced from the bible that baptism should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, but people who have been baptised in the title of father, son and holy ghost should be considered to have been baptised.
This type of compromise is destructive to the Church of God and can only land us in abandoning the Word of God for the doctrine of men. That was what happened to the early church after the death of the last Apostles. When she sold her birth right to the council at Nicean (AD325) and now to the Papal Rome.
If you have been baptised in father, son and holy ghost, you have not been baptised according to the Lord�s instruction yet. As I said earlier, father is not a name. I am a father to my sons. My name however, is not father, though I am one. My name is Paul. I have three sons. Their names are not sons but Samuel, Frank and Moses. These are their names. My spirit is still called Paul. If I happened to die (though I�m not going to die, because I belief I will be transformed for rapture with many other saints to meet the Lord one of this days), my spirit will still be called Paul.
The Scripture told us that the Ephesian brethren were baptised by John. That great Prophet that no man born on earth before him could be compered to him. That they still went ahead to correct their acts by being baptised in the name of the Lord. They humble themselves before the Lord and God confirms that by pouring the Holy Ghost upon them. Paul did not teach them how to speak in tongues or how to prophesise as our great preachers do today.
Dear readers, I employ you to repent and or be baptise in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of your sin, and you�ll receive the gift of the Holy Ghost for the promise is unto you as well.
What? Father, Son and Holy Ghost? There is no name there sir.
