Comments: I was part of the Safeway (Edmonton,AB.) Union for 6 six years. I walked the line in the 1997 strike. Just wanted to say that I truely belieave that we all need to be part of a union... Also I'm looking for any info I can find to get something from Safeway. I had to leave my job as a cashier due to medical reason. I have tried to stay in contact with Safeway HR department, I tried to go back to work, but no one would ever return my calls.... I'm presently have gone back to college to get my HR degree.

I am always searching for information and aritcles, particularly if I can link them to ou internal issues. (We are in a very tough struggle fighting an alcohol & drug testing policy our employer implemented prior to our certification in 1995. This policy includes random testing.)

The senior management of the Halifax Regional Municipality in Halifax, Nova Scotia seems hell bent on contracting out the entire public sector except for fire and police as was done in Indianapolis. We have been o strike for 7 working days now and no end in site. They have hired in about 50 scabs so far, is the rumour and there are 500 inside municipal government workers on strike. No. 1 no seniority No. 2 retirement issues No. 3 contracting out No. 4 right of assignment No. 5 reduction in workforce.it scenes no company ca be competitive without these concessions but they can pay their CEO an outrageous salary and bonus. When without us they would not have a job. We have been on strike for five months with no end in sight. But we will stay one-day longer than it takes! UFCW (U.S. version) screwed us and put our local in receivership as we would not end our strike. They (UFCW) then put scabs in ur union hall. Much help from everyone else, especially the Wobblies. One union. Keep me posted to north of the land of the free and the home of the weird. Wish our leaders (AFL-CIO) would get over their cranial-rectal inversion and shut this country own.
