NEWS AND UPDATES BELOW
Fletchers Foods, is a central Alberta Hog processing plant that has recently become the sole hog plant in Alberta after the UFCW lost its strike atMaple Leaf in Edmonton.
Fletchers has a virtual monopoly on hog processing. Now they want concessions based on those made by the UFCW in Burlington. This strike could turn ugly as
Fletchers brings in scabs. Perhaps UFCW will learn that plant occupations will save jobs and concession bargaining is a no win solution.
UFCW and Fletchers have returned to the bargaining
table since the end of June. Scabs were brought in to the plant to continue processing pork. The union has not yet called a national boycott of Fletchers.

UFCW Blows it Again with concession bargaining!
Edmonton Journal:
Of fifty scabs brought into the Fletchers plant, five were former Maple Leaf Workers. The point here however is that
UFCW still is allowing any scabs in. Avoiding confrontation is a sure way to extend the strike and demoralize the rank & file.
