As we learned recently, among the liberal-catering Republicans we can now number George Bush, Junior. Yes, in a recent GrammNet issue (9/4/99) we saw how Bush, Junior lurched to the left on gun-control in order to keep the liberal media from deserting him over his refusal to give them a straight answer about whether or not he used cocaine. In the same issue I reported that the Canadian Police Association plans to reverse course on gun-control in the opposite direction, and start supporting the right of individual Canadians to arm themselves against criminals. In the report below, we learn that now four thousand American police officers have grown tired of being exploited by politicians to further a gun-control agenda which the officers do not support. Police opposition to the current Clinton-Gore gun-control proposals isn't surprising, since even the generally spineless Congressional Republicans have been fighting the proposals tooth and nail. That puts Bush, Junior, who now supports the Clinton-Gore gun-control proposals, in direct opposition to the American police officers. But naturally you wouldn't expect the liberal media allies of Bush, Junior to MENTION that the officers oppose a policy promoted by Bush too. No, the liberal media will continue promoting Bush, Junior as the "reasonable, pragmatic conservative"--until he wins the nomination, of course. Spread the word: American police officers have joined us in opposing the Clinton-Gore-Bush gun-control infringements of our right to bear arms. Sincerely, David B. The officers are also unhappy with Clinton's record on enforcing the law, citing a 46 percent drop in criminal prosecutions since Attorney General Janet Reno took control of the Department of Justice. The Law Enforcement Alliance of America will launch an ad campaign on Thursday opposing the president, congressional Democrats and other gun control advocates. ‘This president, almost on a daily basis, exploits the rank-and-file of the law enforcement community to further his anti-gun agenda, yet his own administration has a reprehensible record of prosecuting criminals who violate the laws already on the books,’ said Jim Fortiss, executive director of the Law Enforcement Alliance of America.” - Capitol Hill Blue, 9/8/99 ------------------------- Still True: Guns Don’t Kill People... “The media and politicians are so quick to advance their left-wing agenda that they shamelessly exploit tragedies for the promotion of their anti-gun legislation. The recent tragedy in Atlanta started with Mark O. Barton using a hammer to kill his wife and children. Should the city of Atlanta sue Stanley Tool Works? Should we have hammer registration? It is ridiculous to blame an inanimate object for a crime. The question that should be raised is: How is it possible for a person to shoot several people in one office building, casually walk across the street to another building, kill more people, then just as casually as as if leaving work to go home, walk to his vehicle and drive away to continue the savagery? The answer is simple: No one else had a gun.” - Joseph Tomanelli, Washington Times Weekly, 8/16-22/99
