Miramar Marine Base Air Show Page-1

On August 23, 1998, Miramar MCAS Marine Corp Air Station near San Diego, California, performed their FIRST Air Show since taking over the base from the Navy. When I first heard about this air show, I thought it was going to be a Miramar NAS Naval Air Station Air show, with the old 'Top Gun' F-14 Tomcat Jets performing! Still, after arriving, I saw a large assortment of Marine aircraft flying around. There was even a high speed demonstration of a F-14 Tomcat buzzing around with full after burners. It was pretty impressive to me since I have never seen a full afterburner F-14 flying over my head at 150 feet! "POWER" is the first word that pops into my mind when this happens.

All photographs are presented in the same order as they appeared in the Air Show. If my memory serves, we missed the early morning flight demonstrations which mainly consisted of old military aircraft and some non-military aircraft. We left the show slightly before the Blue Angels final show ended, around 5:00 PM. Many people do this to beat the outgoing crowds and traffic.

NOTICE: These photos look 'lousy' with the built in America Online (AOL) Internet Explorer web browser. They look 'fair' with the standalone MS Internet Explorer version 4.01 browser. I will experiment on finding a common format so that the photos look 'good' on all browsers.
