Space Probes that have gone to Venus

1967 Venus 4 (USSR) Explored Atmosphere of Venus. Atempts to land Veneras 4, 5 and 6 failed because they did not withstand crushing by the atmosphere.
1970 Venera 7 (USSR) First space probe to land on Venus.
1972 Venera 8 (USSR) Landed on surface and transmitted data back to Earth.
1974 Mariner 10 (USA) First TV images from flyby.
1975 Venera 9 (USSR) First pictures from surface.
1978-80 Pioneer Venus 2 (USA) Mapped almost whole surface.
1982 Venera 13 (USSR) Landed in volcanic highland region. Returned first color images of surface and carried out soil analysis.
1982 Venera 14 (USSR) Landed 5 days after Venera 13 in lowland region.
1990 Magellan (USA) In August, arrived in orbit around Venus and began returning detailed radar images of planet's surface.
