Col. Joe Lee Burns


Col. Joe Lee Burns is a retired Colonel in the United States Air Force with over 25 years of military flying. He flew several military fighter aircraft such as the F-15 Eagle at various USAF bases, the F-4 C / E Phantom II and T-38 Talon. In 1990, Col. Burns retired from the USAF. As fighter pilot, Col. Burns served two tours in Vietnam, flew as Aggressor pilot and is graduate of the prestigious USAF (Fighter) Weapons School. Furthermore, Col. Burns has commanded an F-15 fighter squadron overseas and was Vice Wing Commander to an operational fighter wing. Today, Col. Burns resides in San Antonio, TX.

September 1971- October 1972: 35th TFS, Kunsan Air Base, Korea
May 1972- September 1972: 35th TFS (Temporary Duty) DaNang AB, Republic of Vietnam - 122 Combat Missions (37 North Vietnam (15 1/2 "Route Package 6")
20th July 1972: On a combat mission, Col. Burns and his backseater are shot down over Vietnam but are immediately rescued.

November 1982- June 1984: commander, 44th TFS CINCBAT, Kadena Air Base, Okinawa
For 1982, the 44th TFS won the Hughes Trophy
