HERE ARE SOME INTERESTING IMAGES THAT I THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE. (click to enlarge)
This is an awesome satellite image of the deadly hurricane Mitch taken on 10/26/98.
This is an unusual picture of an F-18 jet creating a visible sonic boom cloud as it passes through the sound barrier.
Here is a fantastic shot of a volcano in New Zealand exploding ice and ash high into the air.
This volcano eruption looks very similar to an atomic blast. Its Ecuador's Guagua Pichincha volcano which last erupted in 1660. The mushroom cloud rose some 12 miles high. (Reuters photo 10/07/99)
Here is a neat sunrise image of the Klyuchevskoy volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula, Russia. Note the smoke at the summit.
Here is the Russian Mir spacecraft burning up on reentry over the Fiji Islands. (Reuters photo 3/23/01)
Here is the highest resolution shot ever taken of Io, the sulphur volcano moon of Jupiter, by the Galileo spacecraft in enhanced color.
This is a nice shot of Morning Glory Pool in Yellowstone Natl. Park taken by John Alexander.
Yellowstone's Old Faithful geyser in full eruption on a beautiful day.
The worlds largest collection of big telescopes. This is the summit of Mauna Kea (elevation 13,796 feet) on the Big Island of Hawaii.
A beautiful sunset image of the Subaru (left) and the twin Keck telescopes on Mauna Kea. Note the island of Maui on the right, in the distance.
HERE ARE SOME IMAGES TAKEN DURING MY LATEST 3800 MILE WESTERN U.S. VACATION, AND CAR TOUR, IN MAY 2002 (CALIF, ARIZONA, NEVADA, OREGON, THEN BACK TO CALIFORNIA...ANOTHER GREAT TRIP.
Here is a pic of downtown San Francisco and the Oakland Bay Bridge taken from the air.
This is a shot of the tilted, and "sliced", rock formations in the Painted Canyon near the NE end of the Salton Sea in California. My rental car is sitting rite over one of the branches of the San Andreas fault that cut through the unusually colored canyon. Some of the best San Andreas "fault gouge" examples can be seen here.
Here is a shot of the San Andreas fault itself. Note the "greenish" fault gouge between the two different rock formations.
This is a great air shot of the awesome Hoover Dam I revisited on this trip. (From postcard).
A beautiful evening shot of Hoover Dam. (From postcard)
The huge southern spillway at Hoover Dam. It was a nice clear morning while I was there, and no more trucks! The trucks are being diverted from crossing the dam, and because the dam is considered a terrorist target, there are now police roadblocks entering either side of Hoover Dam.
A morning shot of the dam from the north side.
Heres a neat shot looking straight down the center of the dam at the powerhouses (not for the squimish).
This is the lowest water level I've ever seen at Hoover Dam. A good shot of the back of the dam and the penstock water intake towers.
The north side of the dam.
Further north, I ran into a pretty "winter wonderland" up in the Sierra Mountains in Calif. We just don't see this kind of thing in Hawaii.
Another nice snow pic, this one with the sun shining.
My last snow picture, this is the south enterance to the Lassen Volcanic Nat'l Park in northern Calif. The road was closed a few miles ahead, so this is where I turned around.
This is in the Redwoods on northern California's Hwy 1.
And finally, here is a great shot of Stinson Beach, just north of San Francisco, on a clear and sunny day. This was my first time to Stinson Beach. It must be one of the longest beaches in Calif, and is one of the longest beaches I've seen anywhere.
I WILL BE ADDING MORE IMAGES TO THIS PAGE FROM TIME TO TIME ...SO CHECK BACK.
