Large-Flowered Trillium
Trillium grandiflorum
This member of the Lily family boasts a large
solitary three petaled flower on an erect stalk above a whorl of three
broad leaves. Each flower is 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10 cm) wide with 6 stamens
and a white ovary. The petals are white, but turn pink with age and are
much larger than the sepals. Each leaf measures 3 to 6 inches (7.5 to 15
cm) wide and are broadly ovate to diamond shaped and pointed. Plants grow
frequently in rich woods and reach a height of 8 to 18 inches (20 to 45
cm). Flowers bloom in April and May.
