Star Chickweed

Stellaria pubera

This member of the Pink family appears to have ten petals, but in actuality there are only five. Each ½ inch (1.3 cm) wide flower has petals longer than the sepals, and may be cut half their length or more. The flowers are located in clusters atop an erect stem that originates in the leaf axils. Most leaves are stalkless, fairly broad, elliptic and reach up to 3 inches ( 7.5 cm) long. Plants reach heights of 6 to 16 inches (15 to 40 cm) and are common in woodlands. Flowers bloom from March to May.
