Rue Anemone
Anemonella thalictroides
This member of the Buttercup family bears petal-like
sepals, numbering from 5 to 10, that are usually white, but occasionally
pink. Each petalless flower is 1 inch (2.5 cm) wide with numerous pistils
and stamens. The earliest flowers tend to be larger than the later ones.
The stalked flowers rest above a pair or whorl of compound leaves that
have three rounded lobes at the tip. This species grows in open woods
and reaches a height of 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 cm). Flowers appear in
April and May.
