Rough-fruited Cinquefoil
(Aka: Sulphur Cinquefoil)


Potentilla recta

This member of the Rose family sports terminal clusters of large (½ to 1 in) pale (or sulphur) yellow, notched flowers on an erect, hairy, very leafy, many branched stem. Each flower has 5 petals and sepals (with the petals being larger than the sepals) and numerous pistils and stamens. Leaves are compound and divided into 5 to 7  relatively narrow, toothed leaflets measuring 1 to 3 inches (2.5 to 7.5 cm ) long. A European weed that has become common in fields, meadows, and along roadsides, measures 1-2 ft (30 to 61 cm) tall with flowers blooming from late May to June.
