Periwinkle
(a.k.a.: Myrtle)

Vinca minor
This member of the Dogbane family appears much like a pinwheel with it’s asymmetric arrangement of 5 bluish lobes surrounding a star in the center. The flowers measure ½ inch (2.5 cm) across and occur singularly in the leaf axils. The dark green, glossy, opposite leaves measure 1.5 inches (4 cm) in length. This European native reaches heights of 6 to 8 inches (15-20 cm) and is common along roadsides. Flowers bloom in April and May.
