Podophyllum peltatum

This member of the Barberry family sports a single, two inch (5 cm) wide, nodding, waxy white, 6 to 9 petaled flower in the crotch below two large, deeply divided, umbrellalike leaves. Each leaf can range up to 1 foot (30 cm) wide with plants reaching heights of 12 to 18 inches (30 to 45 cm). Plants often appear in colonies in rich, damp woodlands as well as openings and clearings. Flowers bloom from April to June.
