Spring Larkspur

Delphinium tricorne
This member of the Buttercup family sports a cluster of blue or purple spurred flowers atop a fleshy stem that has deeply cleft leaves. The calyx and corolla are colored alike with one of the five sepals protruding into a spur about 0.5 inch (1.3 cm ) long. This species has four petals of which two extend into the calyx spur. The leaves are 2 to 4 inches (5 to 10 cm) wide and are cut palmately into deep, narrow lobes. The plant grows from 4 to 24 inches (10 to 60 cm) tall and inhabits rich woods. Flowers bloom from April to May.

This is a pale version that I ran scross recently. I have never seen one this pale before.
