Hairy Vetch


Vicia villosa

This member of the Pea family sports bicolored pink and white, 1/2 to 3/4 inch (1.3 to 1.9 cm) long flowers in one sided racemes on a hairy stem. The  6 to 8 pairs of narrowly oblong to linear leaflets are pinnate and end in tendrils. The vine ranges to about 3 feet (0.91 m) in length and is found frequently in firlds and thickets. This, as well as other members of the pea family, is widely cultivated for fodder and often escapes. Flowers bloom in June and July.
