Solanum carolinense
This thorny member of the Nightshade family has white or lavender 5 petaled, star-like flowers with yellow centers. The central cone is formed form the elongated anthers of the 5 stamens inside the flower. The flowers are 0.75 - 1/25 inches (2 - 3.1 cm) wide. The rough, elliptic oblong, coarsely lobed leaves are 3 - 5 inches (8 - 12.5 cm) long and, like the stem, are covered with prickles. The plant is commonly found in fields, waste places and gardens. Flowers appear from May to October.
