Day-Lily

Hemerocallis fulva
This member of the Lily family sports a large, upward facing, dull yellowish-brown, spotless blossom. Each flower, which stays open for one day only, is 4 to 4.5 inches (10.1 to 11.4 cm) long with three petal-like sepals and three wavy-margined petals. Unlike true Lilies, the flowering stem is leafless but sports long, sword-like leaves at it's base. The 3 to 6 ft (0.9 to 1.8 m) tall plants produce flowers in June and July. The Day-lily is a garden escapee and does not produce any fertile seeds; it reproduces vegatatively from it's roots.
