Dandelion


Taraxacum officinale

This member of the Sunflower family, is a common lawn weed that sports a single flower head atop jagged-lobed leaves. Each flower head measures 1-½  inches ( 3.8 cm) across with numerous ray flowers each with five tiny lobes. The leaves are basal, measure 2 to 16 inches (5 to 40 cm) long and surround a hollow, milky stem. The outer bracts on the flower heads bend downward. Plants measure 2 to 18 inches (5 to 45 cm) high and is common in lawns, fields and roadsides. Plant flowers from March to September.
