Coronilla varia
This member of the Pea Family sports an umbel of bicolored (pink and white), pea like flowers, each of which are about ½ inch (1.3 cm) long that originate from the leaf axils. The leaves are pinnately compound and divided into 15 to 25 ovate leaflets with each measuring ½ to ¾ inch (1.3 to 2 cm) long. The stems are creeping and often form a dense mat of vegetation. This European native has been planted along roadsides to help reduce erosion , and in many cases has escaped. Flowers bloom from June to August.
