Canadian Cinquefoil
(aka: Dwarf Cinquefoil)


Potentilla canadensis

This low, spreading member of the Rose family, sports a single yellow flower atop a palmately five parted leaf with rounded, sharp toothed leaflets (leaflets are toothless below the middle of leaflets; leaflets measure up to 1 ½ inches... 3.8 cm long). Flowers measure ½ to 2/3 (1.3 to 1.6 cm) wide with five petals and sepals and numerous pistils and stamens.  The downy, silvery stem becomes prostrate after the plant flowers. There is a cream colored form. Plants measure 2 to 6 inches (5 to 15 cm)  (runners 1-2 ft). Roadsides, fields. March-June.
