Stylophorum diphyllum
This member of the Poppy family sports single or clusters of yellow, round petaled 1.5 to 2 inch (3.8 to 5 cm) wide flowers with one pistil and numerous stamens. The pair of deeply lobed leaves are basal and pinnately lobed. Leaves are 4 to 10 inches (10 to 25 cm) long. The flower buds are covered with two hairy sepals. Fruit is also hairy. The plant, whose juice is yellow, ranges from 12 to 18 inches (30 to 45 cm) high and grows well on slopes and banks with deep leafmold. Flowers bloom in April.
