Blue Phlox

Phlox divaricata
This member of the Phlox family is characterized by loose clusters of light blue flowers with wedge shaped petals sitting atop a sticky stem. Each flower is 0.75 to 1.5 inches (2 to 3.8 cm) wide with five petals that unite to form a trumpet shaped corolla. The stamens of the flower are completely hidden. The 1 to 2 inches (2.5 to 5 cm) long opposite leaves range from lance-ovate to oblong in shape. The plant ranges from 10 to 20 inches (25 to 50 cm) in height and grows primarily in rich woods and fields. Flowers from April to June.
