Winnipeg to Host International ATC Hockey Tournament
March 3,4,5. Winnipeg will
host the 26th annual International ATC Hockey Tournament. 32
teams will compete (read...drink) for 3 days and 6 nights in
hopes of taking home the coveted Friendship Cup.
Finland, Germany, and Moscow will represent Europe. All the major
US cities will attend as well, including New York, Chicago,
Miami, Dallas, Southern California, Anchorage, and many others
including our Arch-Rivals the Minneapolis Loons. From Canada, our
friends and co-workers from Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto,
Montreal, and Moncton will be here, as well as others. Three
teams from Winnipeg will compete, highlighted by the Viagra
Vipers, a collection of ATC hockey Hall of Famers.
(Read....really old, old guys!) Non-players who wish to take part
in the festivities are always welcome! A small fee of $100
will give you access to all the major events, including the
opening cocktail party, a grab-bag full of goodies, the
tournament banquet, and of course entry to the Hospitality Room.
Volounteers are always needed at an event such as this, and can
be used in a variety of areas. Anyone wishing to help out with
the tournament, or if you would just like more information, see
Phil Waite (PH) or Lindsay Johnson (LJ), both of Winnipeg
Specialty.
Gifts for Kids
As most of you have seen, Maureen Grace is
again collecting items to help out a family in need from our
community. The family includes a single mom and three kids: a
7-year old boy, a 6-year old boy, and a 2-year old girl.
Donations of non-perishable food items, as well as wrapped new or
slightly-used gifts are being accepted until the 23rd of
December. Mo has advised that if you would like, monetary
donations to go towards the purchase of new gifts are also being
accepted until the 18th of December - this will afford enough
time for Mo to fit shopping into her already hectic schedule!
All gifts can be dropped off in the box located outside Mo's
office. Let's show this family what Winnipeg Centre is all about.
You're Invited
The third annual Christmas Dinner at
Winnipeg ACC will take place on the evening of December 21, 1998.
If you are working that evening, turkey dinner with all the
trimmings will be provided. If the spirit moves you and you would
like to contribute to make it a pot-luck, let Steve Molloy (WG
Spec) know so that arrangements can be made. Otherwise - bring
your appetites and leave your lunch buckets at home!
Important Notice
The employer makes no secret that its views on collective bargaining (and indeed in its latest offer) reflect what it perceives as the will of the membership. CATCA may in the end have to address the continuing employer contact with our members on bargaining issues in another forum, but it is important for everyone to understand that, however well-meaning members are in directly approaching the employer on bargaining matters, it can create a problem at the bargaining table if the employer's focus is on those individual submissions, and not those of the union. As a democratic organization, the Negotiating Team reports to the CATCA Board of Directors, who in turn are responsible to the membership and hence represent all members. Individual communication has the capacity to undermine that representation. We ask you to bear this in mind.
