Shawn's Rocket Page

I hope that everybody who visits this page will enjoy it. This page is designed to give people some knowledge of Model Rockets and the Space Shuttle.

I have been in the hobby of Model Rockets for a long period of time now and extremely interested in the Space Shuttle. My page includes information for anyone that is interested in these topics.

For those of you wondering where Rockets originated from CLICK HERE to view a brief history of Rocketry, courtesy of Nasa.

A Little Bit About Nasa!

Armed with Kennedy's directive to land man on the Moon, Nasa (National Aeronautics And Space Agency) was on of the most powerfull agencys of America.

Nasa was established by the National Aeronautics And Space Act of 1958. The functions of the organization were conceived to plan, direct, and conduct all U.S. aeronautical and space activities, except those that are primarily military. The administrator of Nasa is appointed from civilian life by the president, with the advice and consent of the U.S. senate. The administration arranges for participation by the scientific community planning scientific meausurments and observations to be made through use of aeronautical and space vechicles and provides for dissemination of information conserning results. Under guidance of the president, the administration participates in the development of programs of international cooperation in space activities. With the advent of the space shuttle program, Nasa became more frequently involved in military activities despite it's original intent as a civilian agency because of the long delay caused by the 1986 Challenger diaster, however, the military started expanding it's own fleet of booster rockets.

Nasa's main goal later on over the years was to have man walk on the moon and have him return home safely, it was the American dream. In 1969 human beings landed on the moon for the first time. The United Statues launched Apollo 11 toward the moon on july 16. On july 20, astronauts Neil A. Armstrong and Edwin E. Aldrin, Jr. walked on the moon's surface. As Armstrong took his first step he radioed a message to the world, "THAT'S ONE SMALL STEP FOR MAN, ONE GIANT LEAP FOR MANKIND."

Later on over the years the Space Shuttle program was developed, the first Space Shuttle developed was the Columbia.

The Columbia flew its first mission on April 12,1981, Robert Crippen and John Young were aboard. The mission was a success, the Space Shuttle program was born.

Later on over the years several Shuttle's were made including the Shuttle Challenger. On January 28, 1986 the Space Shuttle Challenger exsploded just 73 seconds after liftoff, all the seven crew members were killed with their families watching on the ground.

Nasa set a big investigation and wouldn't launch another Space Shuttle until the problem was found that caused the exsplosion. After months passed and alot of hard work they found the problem, it was a faulty O-Ring in one of the Solid Rocket Boosters that caused the diaster.

The problem was resolved along with alot of other changes that made the Space Shuttle program alot better and safer for the Nasa Astronauts. If you want to find out alot of information about the Space Shuttle program just click on the links below.

But first, did you ever wonder what causes the Sonic Boom when the Space Shuttle re-enters the Atmosphere!

Model Rockets

As I said at the top of my page I have been in the hobby of Model Rockets for a long period of time, I am sure that their is alot of people out there that are also in the hobby of Model Rockets, and I bet that you find the engines a little exspensive. But guess what! I have the solution for that. If their is anyone out there that is interested in making their own Model Rocket engines just drop me an E-mail and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Just remember that they are very simple to make, simpler than you may think!
