                               SETPANEL.EXE v2.1
                         Aircraft Panel Selection Program.
                        by Richard Lewis -- richl@cris.com.

This program will install/restore/remove/change many of the panels currently
in circulation, for your FS5.1 and FSFS planes.

And now, will easily allow you to select your favorite prop and jet sounds,
before you fly. They will then remain the same, until you change them.

DO THE FOLLOWING FIRST:
If this is your first time running this program, zip up a copy of your
original panels directory, so you can extract any files lost, or
changed that my program doesn't account for or back up.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
USERS OF V1.0 AND V1.1 OF SETPANEL.EXE

Use your current version of SETPANEL.EXE to Change all your plane
panels to their original FS5 defaults before running this new version.

This is not necessary for version 2.0 users.

All users should start with an original copy of their
prop.wav and jet1.wav files in their sound directory, as these will be
backed up, so you can restore them if you wish.

If you forget, just find an original copy of your prop.wav and jet1.wav
files, and copy them to the \newpanel\spdata\ directory as prop.w_v and
jet1.w_v.
------------------------------------------------------------------------

New V2.1 Instructions for use.

 1. Copy SETPANEL.EXE to your flight sim main directory.

 2. Go to your flight sim directory.

 3. Run SETPANEL.EXE. A new directory 'NEWPANEL' and a few
sub directories within it, will be created for your panel
     and sound files.
NOTE: Only the sound directories will be created
for version 2.0 users. Your currently installed panel
directories, and settings, will not be disturbed.
Also some files will be backed up to a directory in 'NEWPANEL',
called 'SPDATA', for restoring panel and sound files.

 4. At the main Plane selection menu, select X to exit.

 5. Go to the newly created 'NEWPANEL' directory.

 6. There are 10 empty directories there labeled PANEL_01 - PANEL_10,
for your new panel files. You may create your own, up to PANEL_40.
You can also delete any you don't need, if you wish.
There is also 2 new directories for your favorite engine .wav
files. They are SOUND_P, and SOUND_J, so you can keep your
prop and jet files separate, or mix and match as you wish.
Files in SOUND_P will be used to overwrite the \sound\prop.wav file,
and files in SOUND_J will overwrite the \sound\jet1.wav file.

 7. Unzip a different panel file into each of the new PANEL_NN directories
as you need them. Do not run the batch files that come with these
programs, when using my program. However, you should keep them to see
how the author uses them to overwrite some of the .pix files. This
will come in handy later on as you will see.
Make sure there is only one file with the extension .pnl in a PANEL_NN
     directory.
If there are other .pnl files, as there is in the MD81-PNL, and FSFSPNL1
panel files, note this example for the FSFSPNL1.ZIP.
        a. Unzip FSFSPNL1.ZIP in PANEL_02, PANEL_03, and PANEL_04 directories.
        b. Go to PANEL_02 and delete or rename VAIRLN3.PNL, and VAIRLN4.PNL,
leaving the 2 engine panel VAIRLN2.PNL.
        c. Go to PANEL_03 and delete or rename VAIRLN2.PNL, and VAIRLN4.PNL,
leaving the 3 engine panel VAIRLN3.PNL.
        d. Go to PANEL_04 and delete or rename VAIRLN2.PNL, and VAIRLN3.PNL,
leaving the 4 engine panel VAIRLN4.PNL.
You can now install or remove these panels individually with SETPANEL.EXE,
     without disturbing the other two.

 8. Put your new prop sound files in the SOUND_P directory, and your new
jet and turboprop files in the SOUND_J directory, or as required.

 9. Run SETPANEL.EXE and make your selections. The menus are self-
     explanatory.

10. Run FS5.1 and start the panel situation setup file, if there is one,
and if you want to. Otherwise, select your new panel with the
appropriate type of aircraft, adjust the windows, and save your
own situation for that panel. Remember to check the windows and
panel position box under the situation save options.

11. V1.0 and V1.1 users may now remove the PANEL_A - PANEL_L directories,
they used with those versions. Also remove the SPDATA directory in
the flightsim root directory created with v1.0 and v1.1.

NOTES:
1. This program was written for FS5.1, FSFS, and SVGA panels only.
2. Panel files named *.hel or similar should be renamed with a .pnl
    extension. ex: lear_s.hel to ab206hel.pnl
3. This program does not install scenery R8 as these are not strictly
panel files. Do those yourself if you want them.
4. Jorg Dolgners' JDJET2_S panel does not work with this program. He uses
an INSTALL.EXE program to create the *.GAU files.
5. The word 'Standard' in the menu will be replaced by the word 'Default'
when you restore a panel to its original default.

Q. What's that new directory SPDATA for.
A. It contains backups of the files changed by many of the panel files.
These files are used to restore your original panels.
It also has a text data file which lets the setpanel program know
which PANEL_NN directories were used with each aircraft type.

FURTHER INFORMATION ABOUT INSTALLING PANEL FILES.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Some, but not all, panel programs have files that need to be renamed,
so that my generic panel switching program can use them correctly.
These files usually overwrite the following files in the panels directory.

lr_ghead.pix
t_attit.pix
t_attit2.pix
r_attit2.pix
r_sattit.pix

So, you need to read the authors batch and text files, to see if they have
lines which say something like "COPY MY_ATTIT.PIX T_ATTIT.PIX", or
"RENAME MY_GHEAD.PIX LR_GHEAD.PIX". Remember, these are only example
names, and they will surely be some other name.

When and if you find such lines or comments, you simply rename that,
filename to whatever it is supposed to overwrite, and leave it in the
PANEL_NN directory. There may be one, or more such files to rename, or
none at all.

Examples.
rename B727-ATT.PIX to T_ATTIT.PIX.
rename DAKATTIT.PIX to T_ATTIT.PIX.
rename IFR7.PIX to LR_GHEAD.PIX.

Now, when you install these panels, they will use their version of these
files, as long as they are not overwritten, when you install another
panel program.

If you want to make sure a panel is using its version of the above files,
just reinstall it in SETPANEL.EXE before running fs5.

I hope that is clear enough.

NEW TO THIS VERSION.
Sound selection menu, on the main menu.
Supports multiple .pnl files using the same graphics.

OTHER FEATURES
Supports changing the .PAN files in the TEXTURE directory. The .PAN files
are the graphics you see when using the 'SEE YOUR OWN AIRCRAFT' setting
in the aircraft preferences. Just rename your .PAN file to the exact
file name it will replace, and put it into the PANEL_NN directory, with
the panel file you want to use it with. It will then be installed and
restored as required.

Allows up to 40 panel_NN directories.

This program is freeware and may be freely distributed, but I retain
any Copyrights.

If you know of any panel files that don't load correctly with my program,
and you can legally send them to me, do so by email, uuencoded in their
original compressed format, and I will see if I can make them work.
Or just let me know where I can get it.
