Nephron
The renal artery branches off several times, and becomes the intralobular
artery of this particular nephron. From here you enter the Bowman's capsule -- which
contains the glomerulus1 -- via the afferent2 arteriole.
As the blood around you is purified, you imagine thousands of scrubbing bubbles
working diligently to clean your craft.
1: glomerulus n. (pl. glomeruli) the
network of blood capillaries contained within the cuplike end (Bowman's capsule) of
a nephron. It is the site of primary filtration of waste products from the
blood into the kidney tubule.
2: afferent adj. designating blood vessels
that feed a capillary network in an organ or part.
