I know, I know. It sounds crazy. But I'm serious -- I actually do collect hurricanes (and tropical storms). No, I don't suck them up into a bottle and put a cork in it or anything like that. What I do is collect rain samples whenever a hurricane passes over Florida. This way, I get to own a piece of the hurricane. See what I mean?
Okay, if you haven't deemed me totally insane and left this page yet, I thank you. In case you are interested, here is a list of the hurricanes I currently hold in my archives. I store each sample in its own 2 dr (7.4 ml) Kimble glass vial.
Year Collected | Name of Hurricane | No. of Samples |
---|---|---|
1996 | Josephine | 5 |
1996 | Lili | 3 |
1997 | Danny | 4 |
1998 | Georges | 3 |
For anyone who has visited this page within the past few years, I apologize for not updating it for so long. Guess I just had other things to do, hmm?
It's catching on! Well, almost.
I've recently inspired a friend of mine to start her own hurricane collection,
starting this summer!
SPECIAL REPORT: T.S. Arlene seems to have left, but I'm still closely watching the tropics. Stay tuned for further updates!
