This is our other pride and joy. (Besides Tillie!) This is Joe in his
Webelos uniform. There's just something about a man in uniform...
Obviously, Joe is a Cub Scout, and has been for four years. He started
as a Tiger Cub, with me as his Tiger Partner. We are all involved in Scouting,
and have a great time. Doris is a Den Leader, and I'm the Cubmaster.
We believe in the Boy Scouts of America, and what they stand for. It's
an excellent way to teach a boy morals, citizenship, sportsmanship, and
patriotism. The Cub Scout motto is "Do Your Best", and that's
exactly what we teach our boys. Joe always does his best, and has won several
awards. He has also won trophies and ribbons for the Pinewood Derby, Space
Derby, and Raingutter Regatta.
By far, my proudest moment as a father, was when Joe received he Religious
Knot (the small patch above his left pocket). To earn the Religious Knot,
a Scout has to work with a church leader in completing special projects,
specific to your denomination. In our case, Joe worked with our pastor,
Tim Gregory. The award was presented to him by Pastor Tim at a special
ceremony during our Blue and Gold banquet two years ago. I have to admit,
I shed a couple of tears that night...
Currently, Joe is the only Scout in our Pack to have earned his Religious
Knot. I'm not proud or anything!
