PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of this program is to provide a career with high quality skill and education to individuals who demonstrate the desire and ability to function as a Pharmacy Technician. This qualified individual must always focus on quality assurance in the maintenance and promotion of health to all patients.


PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

This comprehensive program is designed to qualify appropriate individuals to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in the preparation of medication and intravenous mixtures. The Pharmacy Technician Program emphasizes calculation and conversion of medications and intravenous drugs as ordered by the doctor. The student will be taught about medications both brand and generic names, their side effects, as well as their interaction with food and other drugs.


PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The program will cover the leading most popular drugs, the brand and generic names, side effects, indications, and interactions with food and other drugs. Emphasizes will be placed on calculation and conversion formula. Unit dosage system and stock drug supplies will be taught. Communications, proper labeling and computer literacy will be taught. Medical terminology and the effect of drugs on each different body system are incorporated in the program. A final period of supervision will be done in an externship.


CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

The qualified Pharmacy Technician will be qualified to obtain employment in all health care facilities, clinics and health care agencies, Hospital Pharmacies and Retail Pharmacies.
