| PROGRAM MISSION STATEMENT The mission of this program is to provide education in fundamental health care skills that will provide the graduate access to entry-level employment opportunities in the high demand areas of the Mental Health Technician. This program is for individuals who desire to have the ability to deliver mental health services to individuals in need. PROGRAM OBJECTIVE The Mental Health Technician Program consists of 480 hours for both theory and externship education. The program covers all areas of psychiatric disorder and nursing care of the psychiatric patient. The graduate, utilizing the high quality skills and education will be able to perform all tasks expected of a Mental Health Technician. PROGRAM DESPCRIPTION The program will cover the complete Nursing Assistant training. The remaining training time will be devoted to development of therapeutic communication, crisis intervention techniques, understanding psychodynamics, and behavioral management skills. A final period of supervision will be done in a clinical/externship in an area serving persons in need of mental health services. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES The Mental Health Technician is qualified to obtain employment in all health care facilities, clinics and health care agencies that require such assistance. Graduates also qualify as a Nursing Assistant. |
